Gratallops Vi de Vila is a masterpiece of mineral purity, terroir identity, and high elegance crafted by acclaimed winemaker Álvaro Palacios under DOQ Priorat. Born on small licorella (slate) slopes around Gratallops village, this wine is led by Grenache's honeyed red fruitiness and Carignan's (Samsó) structure, harmoniously enriched by subtle touches of old-vine white grapes such as White Grenache, Macabeo, and Pedro Ximénez. With refined oak aging, Gratallops reflects the light, mystique, and freshness of one of the world's most acclaimed wine regions.
In the glass, Gratallops by Álvaro Palacios displays a bright, deep, pure ruby-red color of high density with noble purple and garnet highlights. The nose immediately unfolds a magnetic, complex, and delicate bouquet: ripe red and dark fruit aromas —such as dark cherries, wild strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries— emerge harmoniously intertwined with violet petals, sweet pepper, imperceptible oak, thyme, rosemary, and a deep cold licorella slate and graphite mineral undertone. On the palate, it delivers a broad, warm entry with a surprisingly velvety texture; its mid-palate is fleshy, fluid, and poetically elegant, featuring silky tannins of supreme finesse balanced by lively saline acidity that preserves overall freshness. An extraordinarily long, persistent, mineral, and delightful finish leaves an unforgettable echo of fresh fruit and heroic terroir.
A powerful contrast pairing. Pork jowl melty, unctuous texture is cleanly cut by this cult Priorat's saline acidity, silky tannins, and slate minerality.
A groundbreaking surf-and-turf match. Gelatinous iodized fish flesh and earthy forest notes pair remarkably well with the integrated white grape nuances and Grenache's ethereal finesse.
A high-end tapas option. Lactic cheese richness and sweet spiced prune notes highlight this wine's dark fruit depth and floral nuances.
