El Prior Rancio is a deeply rooted fortified wine deeply embedded in Central Catalonia's winemaking memory, crafted with ancestral mastery by Ramon Roqueta winery in Manresa. This traditional rancio wine is made from native white grapes subjected to long oxidative cask aging using the traditional solera system. A dry, deep, and historic wine that revives the authentic essence of traditional Catalan fortified winemaking.

Narrative Tasting Note

In the glass, El Prior Rancio displays a striking dark mahogany color with amber reflections, tile-red rims, and high viscosity reflecting its fortified nature. The nose releases an intense, warm, and deeply comforting perfume: roasted nut aromas—hazelnuts, walnuts, and bitter almonds—immediately emerge, intertwined with dried figs, apricots, rosemary honey, seasoned oak, varnish, and the characteristic mineral-rancio undertone of century-old soleras. On the palate, it delivers pure character and body; its entry is dry, broad, and velvety, where alcoholic warmth is perfectly counterbalanced by lively, crisp acidity providing freshness and cleanliness. The tasting experience is long, deep, and persistent, leaving a lasting echo of nuts, toasted notes, and noble oak.

Groundbreaking & Mediterranean Gastronomic Pairings

Traditional Clarified Consommé or Slow-Cooked Veal Stew with Wild Mushrooms

An authentically rooted savory pairing. Old oak and toasted hazelnut notes embrace the deep flavors of slow-simmered broths and stews.

Artisanal Sheep's Milk Blue Cheese or Aged Hard Cheeses with fig bread

A sweet-and-salty match. Intense cheese dairy profile finds its counterpoint in the dry, toasted, and generous profile of this wine.

Almond Biscotti (Carquiñolis), Pine Nut Panellets, or Dark Chocolate Wafers

The quintessential traditional dessert pairing. Wine toasted notes fuse naturally with crunchy artisanal dry pastries.
