Alright, alright... Bodegas Tamaral brings us this red wine from the Ribera del Duero that has already been through the 'kindergarten' of the barrels, no less than 12 months! And get this, it has slept in both French and American oak, so it must have its interesting point. Made only with Ull de Llebre grapes (Tempranillo), there's no trickery here!
In the glass you'll see it with a more serious cherry-red color than its younger sibling, with some garnet reflections that already tell you it has a bit more 'history'. It looks full-bodied, like it has substance. On the nose, things get more complex. Ripe black fruit (blackberries, plums) mixes with the little gifts the barrel has left: vanilla, a toasty touch like coffee, and some spicy hints. You can also find a bit of licorice and an undergrowth-like background. It has things to smell for a while! On the palate, you can notice the aging! It enters with strength, with tannins that are already more tamed but leave a good sensation in your mouth. It's a full-bodied wine, with flavors of ripe black fruit, the spices from the barrel, and a long finish where the toasty notes and that licorice touch return. You can tell it has been pampered in the barrel!
It's a wine that calls for more substantial dishes: a good roast lamb, grilled red meats, game, hearty stews, or aged cheeses. The kind that make you salivate!
The Fuego Fatuo Crianza is a Ribera del Duero that already has more 'experience'. The Ull de Llebre has become friends with French and American oak for a year, and that shows in the ripe fruit, the spices, and those toasty touches that make it more serious and complex. A wine to enjoy with a good meal and good company!
