The legendary Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre is one of the pillars of Spanish winemaking, officially awarded the prestigious Vi de Finca (Estate Wine) designation within the DO Penedès. This flagship red pays tribute to the French port from which Jean Leon set sail for New York to chase his dreams. Crafted from a classical blend of selected plots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it comes from a unique organic vineyard characterized by clay-limestone soils. Its noble essence, shaped by precise aging in French and American oak barrels, delivers a mature, deep, and beautifully structured signature wine built for remarkable aging.
In the glass, it displays a stately and commanding presence, revealing a deep, intense cherry-red color with a high coat and vibrant garnet reflections on the rim that speak of its magnificent extraction. The nose unfolds an elegant, evolving aromatic tale; ripe dark fruits like blackberries, blueberries, and prunes merge seamlessly with complex spicy hints of black peppercorn and clove. This core bouquet gently opens up to a fine array of toasted cocoa, ground coffee beans, noble oak, and a distinctive Mediterranean scrubland balsamic backdrop. On the palate, it is powerful, broad, and flawlessly balanced. The entry is robust yet incredibly velvety, leading into a voluminous mid-palate where ripe, polished tannins provide an enviable silky texture. A fresh and well-integrated acidity structures the wine toward an remarkably long, elegant finish, leaving persistent trails of jammy black fruits and noble toasted wood notes.
The solid architectural structure of Cabernet Sauvignon marries flawlessly with the rich, noble fats of the duck, while the barrel oak and cocoa accents build a sublime bridge with the dark chocolate reduction.
The spicy, balsamic subtlety of Cabernet Franc effortlessly integrates with the earthy, wild nature of venison, enhancing the forest truffle aromas in a truly high-end autumnal pairing.
A striking contemporary contrast. The clean, savory bite of seared beef finds its perfect match in Vinya Le Havre’s volume, highlighting the single-estate wine's deep mineral backbone while refreshing the palate.
