The white wine Muga Blanco from Bodegas Muga is one of the most elegant and gastronomic white wines in DOCa Rioja. Crafted from a traditional blend of Viura, White Garnacha, and Malvasía, this white wine is fermented in French oak barrels and aged on its fine lees. Muga Blanco masterfully balances the crisp citrus and floral freshness of high-altitude Rioja vineyards with the rich volume, creamy texture, and complexity that fine artisanal oak provides.

Tasting Note

In the glass, it displays a bright straw-yellow color with vibrant green and golden highlights that hint at its delicate oak aging. On the nose, it unveils an aromatic palette of immense finesse and freshness, led by notes of white orchard fruits like green apple and juicy pear, complemented by hints of passionfruit, ripe citrus, and a fragrant backdrop of white blossoms. With aeration, lees contact and French oak influence quickly come forward, offering subtle nuances of sweet vanilla, toasted pine nuts, fresh butter, and a delicate mineral undertone. On the palate, it surprises with remarkable balance: it is broad, glyceric, and creamy, coating the mouth with volume while maintaining a lively pace thanks to its crisp citrus acidity. The finish is long, persistent, and highly elegant, leaving a memorable impression of ripe fruit, toasted brioche, and a subtle, enticing bitter touch.

Groundbreaking Pairings

Homemade red tuna belly sashimi with toasted sesame oil and fresh lime zest

A match of exceptional delicacy. Rich, fatty tuna belly blends effortlessly with the wine's creaminess and body, while Muga Blanco's vibrant acidity cuts through the richness, leaving a clean, fresh palate.

Homemade suckling lamb tacos with yellow curry mayo and fresh cilantro

A creamy and spicy pairing twist. The barrel aging and structure of this white wine allow it to hold up well against tender meats like lamb, while toasted oak notes complement yellow curry spices.

Homemade red mullet risotto with caramelized onions and roasted garlic aioli

A rich, savory seafood harmony. Intense briny notes of red mullet find an ideal partner in the texture and oak complexity of this barrel-fermented Rioja white.
