Canals & Munné Gran Duc Gran Reserva Brut Nature is the ultimate expression of luxury, the passage of time, and true craftsmanship from the prestigious Canals & Munné winery. Released only in exceptional vintages, this iconic Cava stands out by blending the unique personality of Pinot Noir with the structural nobility of Xarel·lo and Macabeu. Boasting a legendary cellaring period of over 60 months (5 years) in absolute darkness, it is released bone-dry with no added sugar, resulting in a complex, singular, and profoundly gastronomic cult sparkling wine.
In the glass, it presents itself with captivating majesty, showing an intense, brilliant golden yellow color with gorgeous old-gold highlights that bear witness to its extremely long aging and the subtle character of the Pinot Noir. It is enhanced by a remarkably fine, microscopic bead of bubbles that rises with elegant parsimony, drawing a perfect ring on the surface. The nose is a true showcase of high-maturity complexity: delicate hints of wild red berries, baked apple, and dried apricots immediately stand out, masterfully fused with echoes of fine pastry, melted butter, toast, honey, and a rich background of roasted almonds. On the palate, it is pure volume, structure, and opulence. The entry is powerful yet beautifully creamy; the bubbles have completely melted into the wine after 5 years, offering a silky texture. Pinot Noir and Xarel·lo preserve a wise, sharp, and well-integrated acidity that keeps it vibrant until the very end. The finish is endless, dry, and complex, marked by an unforgettable smoky backdrop.
The soul of the Pinot Noir grapes present in this Gran Reserva mirrors the rich duck meat and red fruit flavors flawlessly, while the 5 years of lees aging hold up effortlessly against the intense truffle aroma.
The crispy pastry texture and the fatty richness of the salmon meet their ideal match in the velvety bubbles and structural backbone of this blend, resetting the palate without losing gastronomic weight.
An overwhelming autumn match. The prominent pastry undertones and delicate smoky layers of Gran Duc masterfully embrace the deep earthy flavors of the mushrooms and the luxurious richness of the pan-seared foie gras.
