The white wine Costers de Cornudella Blanc, crafted by the esteemed Companyia VitÃcola Sileo, is a masterclass in high-altitude winemaking from DO Montsant. Sourced from old vineyards planted on steep slopes ("costers") in the cooler Cornudella valley, this wine brings together the weight and texture of White Grenache, the crisp energy of Macabeo, and the unique aromatic identity of Red Grenache (Garnatxa Gris). A white wine of crystalline purity, where mountain breezes and mineral soils deliver tension, elegance, and distinct salinity.
In the glass, it shines bright and clear with a pale straw-yellow core accented by steel-green reflections testifying to its high-altitude origin. The nose opens with an austere, mineral-driven elegance, revealing initial aromas of white orchard fruit like crisp pear and green apple alongside zesty lemon blossom and a subtle hint of bitter orange peel contributed by Red Grenache. As it breathes, authentic terroir emerges through flinty stone notes, wild chamomile, and mountain herbs like thyme and rosemary. On the palate, it enters with electric, vertical, and deeply refreshing energy. The mid-palate feels balanced and nimble; White Grenache provides generous volume, while Macabeo and Red Grenache supply vibrant acidity and a mouthwatering saline core. The finish is lingering, precise, and mineral-driven, leaving memorable impressions of fresh orchard fruit and citrus zest.
Seafood and mineral harmony. The crisp acidity and saline backbone of Cornudella cut through intense marine flavors, creating a refreshing palate reset.
Earthy and aromatic synergy. Grenache body holds up to rich roasted chicken flavors, while wild herb notes blend seamlessly with earth mushrooms.
Altitude and character contrast. Wine tension slices through rich sheep cheese creaminess, elevating fresh grassy nuances in every bite.
