La Creu Alta is the flagship icon wine, ultimate expression of terroir, and winemaking pinnacle crafted by Bodegas Mas Alta in Torroja del Priorat under DOQ Priorat. Born from century-old vines grown on steep pure licorella (slate) slopes at high altitude, this wine is led by Carignan's (Samsó) strength, freshness, and mineral power alongside Grenache's rich fruitiness, rounded by a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in new French oak barrels, La Creu Alta is a monumental, deep, velvety, and aristocratic red wine built for long cellaring.
In the glass, La Creu Alta displays an impenetrable, deep cherry-red color of maximum density with elegant violet and garnet highlights. The nose immediately unfolds a majestic, complex, and fascinating aromatic journey: intense ripe dark fruit and preserve aromas —such as wild blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries, and dried plums— emerge harmoniously intertwined with pure cocoa, dark chocolate notes, cigar box, graphite, fine oak toast, and a distinctive cold licorella slate and Mediterranean garrigue herb undertone. On the palate, it delivers an imposing, warm entry with a surprisingly velvety texture; its mid-palate is opulent, structured, and fleshy, featuring ultra-fine tannins balanced by lively saline acidity bringing freshness. An extraordinarily long, persistent, mineral, and delightful finish leaves an unforgettable echo of dark fruit preserves and heroic terroir essence.
A luxury street-food pairing easy to assemble at home. Melty duck richness and sweet cherries match sublimely with this cult Priorat's velvety tannins and ripe fruitiness.
A groundbreaking surf-and-turf match of high elegance. Fleshy bluefin tuna and truffle earthy notes pair surprisingly well with this wine's mineral profile and power.
A quick, refined, and delicious tapas option. Lactic cheese richness and sweet fig notes highlight cocoa touches and slate minerality in La Creu Alta.
