The red wine Muga Crianza from Bodegas Muga is a true icon of DOCa Rioja and a benchmark for classic Haro winemaking. Crafted predominantly from Tempranillo alongside Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano, this wine highlights the winery's mastery in in-house cooperage and oak aging using French and American barrels. Muga Crianza effortlessly balances fresh red fruit with oak complexity, delivering a timeless, smooth, and deeply gastronomic profile.
In the glass, it reveals a beautiful cherry-red color of medium-high depth with bright ruby highlights reflecting vibrant vitality. The nose opens up immediately, displaying an expressive spectrum of wild red berries like forest strawberries, cherries, and blueberries, beautifully layered with sweet spice notes of vanilla, clove, and cinnamon. As it breathes, enticing nuances of cocoa, pipe tobacco, graphite, and toasted oak emerge. On the palate, it delivers a welcoming, smooth entry followed by a balanced, fresh, and silky flow. Its tannins are polished, supported by seamless acidity that adds agility and persistence. The finish is long, fragrant, and refined, leaving a lasting impression of ripe fruit, licorice, and subtle sweet spices.
A exciting twist between tradition and modern street food. The rich game meat and subtle smokiness find harmony in Muga Crianza's silky tannins and freshness, refreshing the palate without overpowering the dish.
Breaking classic rules. Firm wild white fish paired with rich Iberian pork belly pairs surprisingly well with the balanced structure and aromatic finesse of this Rioja red.
A deeply aromatic woodland connection. Earthy mushrooms and rabbit meat pair naturally with the balsamic, finely integrated oak, and licorice notes of this classic Haro wine.
