The red wine La Garganta del Capitán Mencía, crafted by the renowned Regina Viarum winery, originates from the heart of DO Ribeira Sacra —a breathtaking landscape of vertical terraces and heroic viticulture along the Sil river canyons. Made entirely from the indigenous Mencía grape, this wine captures the Atlantic freshness and slate soil minerality of the region, delivering an agile, floral, and deeply expressive red wine.
In the glass, it displays a bright cherry-red color of medium depth with vibrant violet hues and clean clarity. The nose immediately unfolds an expressive bouquet of fresh wild red fruits, showcasing raspberries, forest strawberries, redcurrants, and a touch of wild blueberries, seamlessly wrapped in elegant floral aromas of violet petals and lavender. As it breathes, distinctive slate and granite minerality comes forward alongside notes of wet stone, graphite, and wild thyme. On the palate, it is pure dynamism and elegance: offering a bright, crisp entry backed by mouthwatering Atlantic acidity and fine, silky tannins. The mid-palate is fluid, savory, and mineral-driven, finishing with a long, fresh, and delicately spicy aftertaste that invites another sip.
Atlantic land-and-sea harmony. The vibrant red fruit notes and fresh acidity in Mencía match tuna rich textures and the sweet-savory chutney flavor.
Textural and acidic contrast. Atlantic acidity and slate minerality slice through rich oxtail gelatin without masking the complex slow-cooked stew flavor.
Earthy, herbal synergy. Slate minerality, violet aromas, and herbal notes in the wine highlight rich wild mushroom flavors and creamy cheese notes.
