Gotes del Priorat is a contemporary, fresh, and deeply mineral red wine crafted by winemaker Alfredo Arribas at Clos del Portal under DOQ Priorat. Born from high-altitude licorella (slate) terraced vineyards around El Lloar and Bellmunt, this wine masterfully blends Carignan's (Samsó) structure, Grenache's fruitiness, and Syrah's spicy perfume. Aged for around 12 months in oak to respect pure fruit clarity, Gotes del Priorat stands out for its fluidity, lively acidity, and modern take on Priorat terroir.
In the glass, Gotes del Priorat displays a clean, bright, fluid cherry-red color of medium-high density with lively violet and garnet hues. The nose opens immediately with an expressive, crisp bouquet: crunchy wild red fruit aromas —such as wild strawberries, raspberries, pale cherries, and pomegranate— emerge surprisingly intertwined with violet petals, pink pepper, Mediterranean garrigue herbs, and a distinctive cold slate licorella and graphite mineral undertone. On the palate, it delivers a luminous, agile entry with a surprisingly velvety texture; its mid-palate is juicy, dynamic, and magnetisingly light, where ultra-fine tannins balance lively saline acidity inviting another sip. A long, persistent, fruity, and refreshing finish leaves an unforgettable echo of crunchy red fruit and slate essence.
A pairing of depth and elegance. Raw meat delicacy and earthy truffle notes match sublimely with this high-altitude wine's crunchy fruitiness, spicy Syrah, and saline minerality.
A refined surf-and-turf match. Salted fish melty texture and pea sweetness find their ideal counterpoint in Carignan's crisp acidity and silky tannins.
A luxury tapas option. Artisanal cheese lactic strength and tart blueberry notes highlight Gotes' violet flower touches and slate minerality.
