The red wine Samu El Curioso Negre, crafted by the family-owned winery Domeco de Jarauta, is a beautiful tribute to the fineness and expressiveness of authentic Rioja. Made exclusively from 100% Black Grenache and masterfully aged for 12 months in oak barrels, this wine steps away from classic Rioja standards to offer a vibrant, seductive, and deeply layered profile. The wood beautifully respects the purity of the fruit, imparting a velvety structure and an intriguing complexity. An elegant red with a free spirit, designed to enchant lovers of distinctive Grenache wines.
In the glass, it displays a lovely ruby-cherry color of medium-high intensity, very bright and clean, with vivid purplish rims that showcase the wonderful youth of the Grenache. On the nose, it unfolds with a charming intensity, where ripe red and black forest fruits—such as raspberries, blackberries, and cherries—take center stage. Quickly, the richness of its barrel aging emerges, paving the way for subtle notes of vanilla, crushed black pepper, pure cocoa, and a highly elegant undertone of forest floor and tobacco leaf. On the palate, its true fineness is revealed: it flows smoothly yet with great body, supported by fine, polished, and exceptionally velvety tannins that wrap around the mouth gently. The acidity is surprisingly crisp and lively, bringing a fantastic verticality that beautifully counteracts the variety's natural warmth. The finish is long, seductive, and highly persistent, leaving a smoky and berry-rich memory that invites you to linger.
A pairing of high-end home gastronomy. The rich, flavorful character of duck meat is perfectly complemented by the freshness and velvety tannins of the Black Grenache. Furthermore, the sweet blueberry and plum sauce connects beautifully with the wine's ripe fruit and oak-matured nuances.
An informal, groundbreaking treat. The intensity of beef and the creamy, sharp texture of goat cheese are perfectly balanced by the body and lively acidity of this Rioja wine. The caramelized onion beautifully elevates the echoes of its 12-month barrel aging.
A magical, surprising finale. The cocoa notes from the barrel aging and the vibrant fruit expression of the Black Grenache extend infinitely when joined by the intensity of dark chocolate. The touch of salt and olive oil heightens the wine's silkiness and minerality for a truly memorable match.
