The red wine Rosa Mayor from Valtravieso winery is a singular, deep expression of DO Ribera del Duero. Sourced from one of the highest and most extreme terroirs in the appellation, over 900 meters above sea level, this wine is born from the perfect harmony between fleshy Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and the structured, herbal purity of Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged with care in oak barrels, Rosa Mayor stands out for its high natural acidity, limestone minerality, and a cool Atlantic character that sets it apart in the region.
It presents itself in the glass with an intense garnet-red coat of high depth, adorned with violet flashes and a bright cherry rim reflecting its high-altitude freshness. On the nose, it unfolds with great vertical complexity and elegance: vibrant aromas of wild dark fruits like cassis, blueberries, and forest blackberries burst forth, combined with balsamic hints of graphite, cedarwood, tobacco leaf, and Cabernet Sauvignon's characteristic herbal touch. The oak integration is impeccable, delivering subtle hints of dark chocolate, toasted green pepper, and licorice. On the palate, it surprises with remarkable freshness, volume, and firmness. Its mouthfeel is fleshy, with structured yet beautifully polished tannins balanced by lively, crisp acidity. The finish is long, deep, and mineral, leaving a persistent memory of dark fruit liqueur and sweet spice nuances.
A match of high precision. The rich duck meat texture and blackcurrant reduction mirror Cabernet Sauvignon fruit tones and high-altitude freshness, effortlessly cutting through richness.
Breaking traditional pairing boundaries. The meaty texture and healthy fats of seared bluefin tuna thrive on the wine's electric freshness and polished tannins, creating a unique and deeply satisfying umami harmony.
Pure aromatic synergy. Earthy mushroom undertones and crispy sweetbread textures find their ideal partner in Rosa Mayor's minerality and finely integrated oak structure.
