Menudo Blanco from Bodegas Luzón is a breath of fresh air, joy, and rebel personality straight from DO Jumilla. Created by one of the region's historical benchmarks, this wine was born to prove that southeastern Spain can deliver vibrant, electric, and highly fun white wines. Crafted through a clever blend where the indigenous Airén matches perfectly with the aromatic intensity of Sauvignon Blanc and the fine texture of Macabeo, Menudo presents an unapologetically young and approachable profile. The vineyards, grown at high elevations on poor limestone soils, provide a striking natural acidity that balances the beautiful Mediterranean sun, yielding a luminous white wine perfect for any casual occasion.
In the glass, it shows a lovely pale straw yellow color, clean, crystal clear, and brilliant, enhanced by light greenish reflections that display its immediate youth. The nose is honest, direct, and intensely fruity, showcasing bright aromas of fresh white fruits like crisp pear, subtly mixed with passion fruit hints, citrus peels, and a very characteristic background of freshly cut green grass. On the palate, the entry is surprisingly luscious, crisp, and highly agile. The journey across the mouth is light, dry, and well-balanced, guided by a crunchy acidity that cleanses the palate while boosting the wine's citrus energy. The finish is remarkably pleasant, offering medium-to-high persistence with a refreshing and fruity aftertaste that easily invites another sip and keeps conversations rolling.
A traditional tapas pairing elevated by sheer energy. The crunchy texture of homemade fried squid demands the vertical and electric acidity of Menudo Blanco to cut through the rich batter. The wine's citrus nuances effortlessly fuse with the fresh lime zest in a brilliant way.
An outstanding botanical and briny contrast. The subtle sweetness of the zucchini and caramelized onions finds a delicious counterpoint in the wine's tropical fruit character. Meanwhile, the creamy and salty touch of feta cheese is beautifully balanced by the wine's dry, crisp nature.
The ultimate casual appetizer match. Hummus's dense texture requires a fluid and agile white wine to lighten the palate. The tropical and herbal aromatic display of Sauvignon Blanc and Airén adds a surprising brightness that cuts through the dish's richness beautifully.
