DO PLA DE BAGES
White Wines from DO Pla de Bages
The white wines of the Pla de Bages Designation of Origin are the liquid expression of a continental microclimate sheltered by Montserrat and backed by a thousand-year-old tradition. Far from monotonous, the range of whites from this region stands out for its vibrant freshness, a distinctive balsamic note recalling the Mediterranean undergrowth, and a surprising glyceric smoothness on the palate that makes them outstandingly gastronomic and age-worthy.

Grapes with Local Identity
The true treasure of Bages lies in its commitment to local viticultural heritage, yielding singular white wines that stand out from the crowd:
- Picapoll Blanc: The flagship variety. It brings subtle aromas of ripe pineapple, citrus, and aromatic herbs, coupled with a broad, creamy mouthfeel and flawless acidity.
- Macabeu and Malvasia: They provide structure, volume, and notes of white fruit and rue flower to the traditional blends.
- Adapted internationals: Varieties like Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc add complexity and oak-aging potential in specific boutique wineries.
Groundbreaking Pairings
Far beyond classic white fish, the structure and character of these white wines allow us to play with daring, high-end gastronomic combinations:
- Washed-rind cheeses and truffles: Picapoll's rich texture cuts through the fat and cleanses the palate when facing intense cheeses.
- Asian and fusion cuisine: Its crisp acidity pairs beautifully with the spicy and aromatic notes of curry, ginger, or sushi with a touch of wasabi.
- Poultry and white meats: An oak-aged Bages white will easily complement a traditional chicken and lobster stew or deboned pig's trotters.
